Crosses

I suddenly got my crocheting mojo back seven days and it is still going strong. Am making a throw that will either be a belated engagement present or an early wedding present.

It's going to look rather similar to one I've made previously, using the cross motif. But this time, I'm using a machine-washable aran-weight. Stash yarn. Yep. How good am I? However, I decided to use a 4.5mm hook, so it's coming up as roughly the same gauge as my DK throw. And, as I only have 20 balls, it's going to end up a little smaller. I've used 10 balls so far and have 22 squares. Rather than 6x8=48 squares, it will probably be 5x7=35 squares.

I may well finish it over the next few nights as I sit up in bed trying not to go into WB's room. His dad is going to try to pat him back to sleep without the night feeds. Fingers crossed.

8 months

I couldn't decide which was my second-favourite photo from this morning's mini photo shoot, so you'll just have to settle for just my favourite one.

Saw our new permanent health nurse today. Meh. Nowhere as good as the previous one, but our next appointment isn't for another 4 months, so we won't be seeing much of health nurses anymore anyway.

Stats - we're pretty average now, sitting just below the 50th percentile. Don't really want to be average, oh well. So, in the last month:
Weight: 8565g (+870g)
Height: 71cm (+4.5cm)
Head: 45.2cm (+1.2)

Wires

WB and I just went for a drive to pick up some wool fleece for stuffing from this place.
It's seriously in the middle of nowhere. Well, nowhere for this city girl involves lots of trees, country roads, and lots of brown. And for some reason I kept on noticing the low hanging wires.

Speaking of wires, I finally finished the Meadow Birch Shawl yesterday. All blocked and ready for gifting. Gosh I heart my blocking wires.

Jiggling

I've just read this article about some study which claims that "Women who do not breastfeed their infants are nearly four times more likely to neglect and abuse their child, a study of Australian women has found".

Wow, talk about turning the knife and jiggling it around, huh? And so, so constructive. And since when does 6000 Queenslanders = "Australian women"?

So angry-making. And I breastfeed!

Enabler

I introduced someone to Peters the other day. She couldn't stop talking about it. I sat back and admired my handiwork.

I also introduced a few people to the Book Depository. I haven't actually done the maths, but what the with the GB pound doing so badly, it must be cheaper than Amazon. And without those hidden shipping costs. Free delivery worldwide people. Free.

Where is my brain?

Sometimes I'm very glad I have this blog.

I thought I had somehow lost two bibs somewhere in this house. A lovely green one I knitted for WB and a brown one I knitted for one of the mothers group bubs. I couldn't for the life of me find them anywhere. And I was doubly confused as to how I could have lost them both, considering that one should have been amongst his clothes and the other tied up with string and put somewhere 'safe'. 

I've just now, however, checked the December archives to see whether I'd actually knitted the one that was to be gifted. Turns out not. How's that for baby brain? 

Speaking of babies though, I had a lovely mums and bubs afternoon today. We ended up having a mini impromptu mothers group where we sat and chatted all afternoon. Haven't done that for ages due to the holiday break and recent outings that don't allow much group chat.

But today I was feeling a bit Monday-itisy, so I invited myself over to D&M's house and two soon grew to four (not counting the bubs). Not that we can call them for bubs much longer. WB's the youngest and he's 7.5 months, with the two eldest of the group being almost 9 months. I can't believe how time has flown. It's been fascinating watching them all develop. Soon it will all change as more of us return to work, so I'm trying to enjoy this leisurely phase whilst I can.

All about the garter

It's all about the garter stitch chez grumpygirl au moment. Bibs, facecloths and more facecloths. I just can't stop myself from casting on the gartery goodness.

Good thing too, as I've given up on the log blanket I was making with the Sublime Organic Cotton. The colours were just too wishy washy. They're perfect for grandma's dishcloth squares though. In this heat, I can't contemplate much else. 

I'm slightly avoiding the Birch Shawl that I'm wanting to finish by Wednesday night. I am knitting some wool though. This green Cleckheaton is working up better than I thought, yarn snob that I am. Not bad for $3 a ball, which is great considering how overpriced Cleckheaton generally is.
