Out at lunch

Two sundays ago:

Brighter

Gosh I was in a cranky mood yesterday. Culmination of a week's worth of stress.

On a brighter note, I won some Wollmeise yarn.

It's the SOS colourway and is almost neon orange.

By the time I saw that Jac at Serendipity had a bushfires donation appeal thing going, I'd already donated but we never got our Red Cross receipt. But I really really wanted some free yarn, so I donated a bit more at the eleventh hour and won some much coveted Wollmeise.

Not sure what I'll make with it. Probably something for WB.

And another thing...

And whilst I'm in a ranting mood, I've just found out the ABA, that group whom I thought could not possibly annoy me any further, has.

In the 10 months since I've been a member, I've received their magazines, quite a bit of spam from their online shop Mothers Direct and TWO pieces of snail mail.

The first was an invitation to a lunch that was held the day before I received the letter. The second was about a month ago with a printout of the 2009 events.

And just now, I find that the local group sends out WEEKLY emails of events. WEEKLY!!!
Man, they must use some fancy computer system that doesn't let them extract any of the data they input. Such as any membership data for any practical purposes. Ever. But only as it pertains to me.

If I had the extra energy, I'm sure I could develop quite a good complex about it all.

Catching

It's been a wee while since I've last posted. Things that have happened in the last two weeks:
- Landlord offers a six month lease as they want to sell
- Decide to start buy now rather than next year
- Found a house
- Realised a block bordered on 3 sides by public housing was not such a great an idea
- Found another house
- Outbid
- Not looking forward to the emerging pattern.

What else? Well let me tell you about today. Even though I probably shouldn't. I've never said anything on this blog that I wouldn't say directly to those concerned, but I wouldn't go looking to say it, if you know what I mean. But it's my blog and I'll grump if I want to.

A few weeks ago our mothers group went to A Place To Catch Germs (aka a play centre). I wasn't sure where we were this week, so asked three separate people but they all gave the same answer.

My hayfever is really playing up, indoors and out, and Master WB is waking me up earlier and earlier by pulling my hair (He is so lucky he's such a cutie). And I really really wasn't in the mood to pay to Catch Germs. But I figured we can't always have what we want, so off we went.

Once inside, I noticed how much cleaner and neater the place seemed today. That would be due to there being only 3 children there (vs many tens last time). None of these children, however, were from my mothers group.

So after sitting there for a while, I eventually discover that someone was hosting it at their place and hadn't texted me. I say eventually for I didn't have my phone - BD had taken my phone to work rather than his. (Don't get me started!)

I'm probably not being particularly gracious or forgiving, but let me go out on a limb here and say that if the number you've got stored on your phone is similar to, but isn't quite the number I text you from, maybe it's worth checking out. Just sayin'.

And it's not as though mothers group has been going on for almost 8 months. What was that? It has?

Ok I feel better now. Next time time I might just go with my instincts and catch some free germs.

I haven't had a rant in a while, and I wouldn't want y'all to think that motherhood has made me go soft or anything, so here's a mini one.

I was at the library on Thursday and lined up behind a guy at the borrowing counter. An old woman (not decrepit, quite spritely, actually) lined up to his right.

When the librarian asked who was next, the old woman, rifling through her handbag, says 'oh you can serve her first' or something. To which I muttered 'yes, because I was here first' or something.

Pink

Taking a break from the green. Here's some pink:

There's a white one too, but it was too much of a contrast with the pink.

I'm knitting this owl motif sock and was going to add some purl eyes, but BD rightly point out that person I'm knitting it for would probably get spooked by them everytime she looked down at her feet.

It's also the very first sock for which I haven't taken ANY measurements. I'm winging it. Yep me. I will admit though, that snuck a look at their shoe size and turns out they're the same size as I am, so that makes things a little easier. But no ankle, heel, calf or instep measurments, I'm just going with the length and making it a bit looser than I would make myself.
