Listless

I have no energy. I've been sick since Wednesday (I think) and I thought I was getting better but I got worse on Saturday night. I say I think because WB has been sick and I didn't have time to realise just how bad my chest cold was/is.

My poor little man got his first fever on Wednesday night and was completely listless in my arms for about half an hour before I rang the Dr. I normally wouldn't have been so worried, but he'd just had his 12 month vaccinations on the Tuesday and I wanted to make sure everything was ok. Good thing too, as it turns out he's got an ear infection. He seems all better now, bar a really gluggy nose, but boy feeding him his antibiotics every 8 hours is a pain. 830pm and 430am are not sensible times to feed a sleeping baby. Luckily he quite likes the stuff now and will open up quite willingly, but still.

I've been too unwell even to knit much. Since Saturday I've crocheted 5 granny squares. The Sublime organic cotton that I bought in a sale has just been sitting there mocking me whilst I struggled to find a project for it. Good old granny squares. I'm hoping the colours go together better than they did in the Moderne Blankie I attempted a while back. I don't want to have to buy more yarn to finish off sale yarn.

Felting

This was intended to be a gift, only a few things went wrong. I should have used a 5mm rather than 4.5mm hook, I didn't have enough yarn, and  I believed the washing instructions which said 'machine washable'. Yeah, if you want to shrink and felt it! Anyway, the felted feel of it is lovely and heavy, but it's a bit small for an engagement/wedding gift. So I'm going to have to make something else, something big enough for two.

Sunburnt

Yep. Me. Today. After this freezing weather we've been having.

Today was a crazy but productive day. I didn't realise just how crazy messy the ducted heating installation would be. Cutting through the slate resulted in a comprehensive layer of dust over EVERYTHING in the kitchen and lounge. It paralysed me. I couldn't see how I could clean it and make sure WB was sectioned off safely before we turned the heating on so it didn't blow the dust around. Luckily BD was able to come home at lunch to help me out. We also had an electrician, blinds fitter and locksmith. And a quote for finishing the floorboards.

Whilst all the tradies were doing their work, WB and I sat on our balcony out back in the beautiful sunshine and pondered our view whilst we waited for BD to come to our rescue.

Later on in the afternoon, we went for a walk to the park and WB fell asleep on the way home. I pushed the pram out onto the balcony and he slept there for the next hour. Bliss.

So anyway, I'm now a bit burnt but I don't care, the ducted heating is on and I'm WARM.

12 months

It's become increasingly difficult to get a non-blurry photo of this boy lately - he just doesn't stop! So here he is strapped in and enjoying his sushi roll.

We met our new MCH Nurse yesterday, and she was just great. She says he's doing everything he should be doing. He turned on the charm and she was enchanted. We're going back in 3 months time so she can check on how we're settling in, isn't that nice?

Did I tell you he's walking now? It started with 4 steps the day we moved into our new home and then a few days after that it became a lot of steps. I wasn't looking forward to the walking stage, but now that he's got so heavy, I've changed my mind. Plus who can begrudge him anything, really?

We went shoe shopping for him today, just some soft-soled ones that provide a bit more protection when we're on difficult or wet surfaces. Baby shoes are expensive, I tell you! WB enjoyed it though. He loves it when people play with his feet, so he just loved having his feet measured and shoes put on his feet. I'm raising a boy with a foot fetish.

Tweedy aran

I've worked out my problem. I want to crochet. A tweedy aran baby blanket. It just ain't gonna work. So I'm mulling over it whilst I knit more washcloths. And watching Spooks on iView.

No knitting

I spent most of today thinking about knitting. But I didn't actually do any knitting.
I want to knit tweed. I want to knit baby blanket. I want to knit stash yarn.
My conclusion? These things just don't go together.
What to do? I need to stop thinking and actually knit. But what? And with what?

I thought I was dying..

...but it turns out it was just gastro. How pedestrian. But I didn't know this as I've never knowingly had gastro before. And I was in such pain I didn't really stop to tally up all my symptoms. Slowly getting better. Not much energy and very sleepy. I even had to cancel a lunch I was going to host for friends I've been really looking forward to catching up with.

Onto the knitting content! This is where I was this morning with WB's raglan jumper.

I then knit some more, a niggling fear that it would be too short. I really should listen to those niggles. After trying it on him this afternoon, I proved myself right and frogged. I even had to separate the sleeves and then kitchener them back on again. I've only just got back to before the decreases. It will be worth it though. My boy looks great in this colour.

Speaking of the boy, he's just a delight. A slightly snotty delight at the moment, and sometimes a loud annoying one, but I wouldn't trade him. For more than a minute or two anyway. He started taking about 4 steps at a time on Saturday - the day we moved into our new home, so that was a great present. He's now taking more, but still flops back onto his butt very frequently. It makes him sooo happy to take steps though. It's always with a purpose - to get from A to B. (No inefficiency in this household). And no zombie arms! It must be all this usable space we have in our new house, he's just loving roaming around and discovering.

And lastly, here, finally, an FO that I finished a while back - it's a great width and a great project for an single expensive skein of soft soft yarn.

I can't get the colour right - it's a deeper wine colour. Oh well. Back to knitting now.

Berry

Well, we're moved in and doing our best to get snuggly warm. Well at least I am. BD is at the old house cleaning as we need to return the keys tomorrow morning.

I have just cast on another item for WB. He's going through his clothes at a rapid rate and we really need the winter woollens in this house at the moment. I'm using Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran Tweed again. On sale and really lightweight, especially for a 5mm knit. The colourway is Gypsy, a lovely royal blue that I wish was just a tad more heathered.

Here's an FO (don't you love how these itty bitty things bump up the knit count?). It's a lovely blue/purple colour for baby A who was just born a few hours ago.

And here's a pic from a couple of weeks ago when I was kniting the Russett vest. I hope to be doing more of this in my new house, yay!

Moving, yay

Woo hoo, we are now homeowners!

Settlement went through at 230pm today and then we rushed HOME to take down the skanky blinds and curtains so that the blinds man could install the new dual blinds (which, by the way, are beautiful).

Then we spent the rest of the afternoon cleaning as the tenants hadn't bothered cleaning the place when they left. We finished up at about 530pm as we were starving and rather tired. Plus we still have more packing to do. I say we, but I really mean BD who is doing 95% of it. I just can't get my head around packing. Merely thinking about it leaves me almost paralytic. But I shall be doing 95% of the unpacking, so it all evens out in the end.

Anyway, we still haven't mopped. Tomorrow is mopping and moving day
